I am looking for more of a chestnut color : (I'll even take Irish setter red, as opposed to Golden Retreiver : Orange). : : I have just purchased some of Catherin's Henna and thought I'd get : some recs on how to avoid those darned orange/brassy tones I had : received from stale henna. : : Any recs on what to add to give the color I am seeking? Also, I am : wondering if I were to leave the henna on longer, maybe it will go : from orange to a deeper red-brown? : : Thanks! I am still grappling with this myself. I'm a natural redhead ( I would call it auburn and copper) and wanting to cover some greys. I was also hoping to deepen my natural red tones. However, in test after test I keep getting some form of orange! I've learned here that natural henna can't lighten your hair, just add colour, however on my hair type (seems to take up the dye VERY readily) the effect is one of a much lighter coppery red than what I already have. The body art quality henna is supposed to produce richer tones. Also repeated applications are supposed to deepen the colour, as is leaving it on for a longer time. I personally found that leaving it on for a long time produced a very deep (and very bizarre!) not to be found in nature type red! ack! So thats not an option for me. The mixes section is a great resource. I've found the best colours I got were from a red wine & cloves concoction; coffee also deepens it quite a bit, but I am learning to live with orange... Try a few hairbrush tests; also once I had done that I did a couple of inconspicuous strands on my head. It looks much nicer "on" than the clump of hair did! good luck finding that colour!
