Re: getting rid of the orange...Posted by Fia on April 20, 2004 at 05:55:11: In reply to: getting rid of the orange... posted by iris on April 15, 2004 at 05:35:00: : I don't know if you have people around you who have been hennaing for: years and years, but the people I know who have done that, all have : similar shades of dark purple hair, especially towards the ends (in : 'normal' daylight, in the sun you may see a bit of orange). I think : this purple colour is the result of lots of layers of oxidyzed henna, : with a bit of unoxidyzed henna from a recent application on top. I : hope that someone will correct me if I'm babbling here... but it is : how I understand the transitions on my own hair. bright orange the : first days, moving to more like fire-engine red tones in the two weeks : after that (combination of oxidyzed and unoxidyzed henna), going to : purple/dark brown (oxidyzed with small portions of unoxidyzed henna). Sounds similar to what I see on my own hair. The longest lengths (just above brastrap) is a dark, in some lights almost purplish red (which I quite like) - they have henna on them since about three years back. The color gradually lightens as I move up the strand and is the lightest just at the roots - as expected since they have the least amounts of henna on them. It's not a huge difference if you look at the hair down - but quite noticeable if I bring the ends up close to the roots. Also looking at my hair over time. First days after henna - very intense deep orange red. A week-and-a-half to two weeks after - a deeper more mellow red, but still very noticeably red. After that - a deep reddish brown if I'm not in direct sunlight where the deeper mellow red is again very noticeable. All this with only pure bodyart quality henna over light/medium brown - I don't use any additives to mine. I'm kind of fond of this color play - my personal favorite is really that in-between stage where it's a deep red but without that first intense orange overtone. /Fia
