I have hennaed my mom's hair several times, and her hair is dark brown/black with white hairs, and in my experience, no matter what quality henna i use and how long i wait for the dye to release in the henna mix or how long i leave the mix in her hair, it always turns her whites an embarrassing orange color. kinda like a halloween pumpkin. i think if your hair is starting to grey or if you have very little white hairs, then the henna is able to disguise the greys and whites, and if your hair is lighter. on really dark hair, henna just seems to turn white hairs orange. fortunately, there's indigo which i use after her henna application, and that always takes the white hairs to a nice ashy black/brown. and indigo covers completely. hope this helps.
