: Well, my naturally brown/auburn hair has just turned a carrot
: colored orange and I am in a desperate panick! I used 3
: test "swatches" in the exact same mix and got the exact same color
: (brown with a little more red than my normal color) ---- but after
: tonight's henna, my hair is carrot colored at the temples, and has
a
: nice orange color to the rest of my hair. (not to mention my
scalp).
:
: I know that it will change over the next few days -- and I know
that
: a sugar scrub with my conditioner will help with the scalp.
:
: My question: why were my test strands different than the
: final "outcome"?
:
: If I were to apply the henna again on my brigher orange temples
(not
: sure why it turned more bright there), would it darken it, or make
: it even brighter?
:
: FYI: my mix was body grade henna, red wine, and cloves (1/3
cloves
: to 2/3 henna). My hair smells good!
:
: Thanks alot!

Really really really, don't panic. I felt the same exact way on day 1
of henna, and even though I KNEW intellectually (from all I had
learned here) that the colour would change I still was shocked at the
degree of orange I got! I also was thinking within 24 hours "I am
gonna have to do something to fix this" and now I can categorically
state that I LOVE my colour. I'm waiting to do my next henna.

It is true that the harvested hair test is not entirely accurate;
well in the sense that it shows you henna will not cause any harm to
your hair it is invaluable. But I did harvested hair tests galore and
also strand tests on my head and the overall effect was quite
different. Your hair takes up the dye differently in different
places. If you're like me, the hair at my temples is the driest and
most fragile hair on my head (also home to my few greys) so I also
had orange temples.

THE ORANGE GOES AWAY. Oh, and the other thing the harvested hair test
doesn't really show as well is how much the colour will change in a
few days to a week. Give it at least a week. And wear a hat or a
scarf!!LOL
