What's a terp, chemically?

I googled around for pictures of terpenes and found this. Terpenes are
made from isoprene (the monomer of rubber). "Isoprene" sounds like it's
an isomer of prene, but "prene" appears to be used only in trademarks
(and the occasional Occitan verb - it means "take").
