Either I did something wrong, or tamarind doesn't work

I did two samples, one for four hours, the other for six. Neither
changed colour at all. This is a pity, because the tamarind did
improve the texture. I covered the bowl with cling film while I was

So there goes the tamarind idea. Any others?

By the way, how old should henna be? I just noticed a date on the
bottom of the box. It's two years old and it's BBE date is this week.
