Virignia,

If I were you I'd take the time to do a couple strand tests. My pet
peeve about most commercial dyes (henna or not) is that they pretend
natural redheads don't exist, so they won't tell you what the dye
will do when applied to a natural redhead. My hair is a medium red
and I've been dying my hair a dark auburn for more than 10 years and
finally decided I needed to stop because of the damage. On a whim I
tried henna (with a good dose of cloves in there) to see if I could
get a dark auburn shade again (the cloves are supposed to make the
red deeper. My parents both remarked the day after I'd henna'd my
hair that it was nice to see that dark dye had finally come all the
way out of my hair. When I told them I had henna'd it, my mother said
it looked like the same shade I had when I was younger. I found it
gave my hair a very natural looking red tone.
