a few answers...Posted by Alison on May 16, 2004 at 23:03:00: In reply to: dye release - is there such a thing as waiting too long? posted by Barbara on May 16, 2004 at 18:56:37: : This is only my second time, and I have a question about dyerelease timing. I : let my mix sit overnight, and this morning it was clear that the dye had released. : Mostly out of curiosity, I am wondering if is there an optimal time frame for putting : henna on the hair after dye release -- in other words, can the dye can be out for too : long and therefore be less "penetrating?" : : For example, my hair is long and quite thick, and so it takes my friend two hours to : really get it slathered on from roots to ends. In that time, is the henna mix that goes : on my hair at the end of the session any more or less potent/effective? Yeah, but 2 hours isn't the breaking point. Check out http://www.hennapage.com/henna/how/dyerelease.html for the answers to dye release questions. And, similarly, : while I have read that there is a difference between leaving henna on for two hours : and four hours (deeper color), is there a generally accepted time after which longer : does not equal more stain? Probably anywhere over 8 hours is overkill, but that is just my guess. The reason I say that is because I've found henna for body art won't get an improved stain if it stays on the skin longer than 8 hours or so (ie, overnight, and with "improved" meaning "dark"). The longer the henna stays on the skin up to that point, the darker the stain will be all other factors being equal, but after that it doesn't change to a noticable degree. However, given the differences between skin and keratin in hair...I'll only claim that answer as a guess! Hope this helps some!
