dye release - is there such a thing as waiting too long?Posted by Barbara on May 16, 2004 at 18:56:37: Hi everybodyIt seems that today is Henna Day! I'm sitting here typing this with a saran wrap turban holding in wads of hair and about 400 grams of my henna brew. This is only my second time, and I have a question about dye release timing. I let my mix sit overnight, and this morning it was clear that the dye had released. Mostly out of curiosity, I am wondering if is there an optimal time frame for putting henna on the hair after dye release -- in other words, can the dye can be out for too long and therefore be less "penetrating?" For example, my hair is long and quite thick, and so it takes my friend two hours to really get it slathered on from roots to ends. In that time, is the henna mix that goes on my hair at the end of the session any more or less potent/effective? And, similarly, while I have read that there is a difference between leaving henna on for two hours and four hours (deeper color), is there a generally accepted time after which longer does not equal more stain? Pretty academic questions for now, but I've got henna on the brain (and on the head) and thought I'd ask. My questions may be much more practical when I take this stuff off! Thanks much, Barbara
