Is this an allergic reaction or just a reaction to henna additives?Posted by Ramona on May 25, 2004 at 00:54:19: I've used henna 4 times now over the past 6 months or so. The coloris lovely and my few grey hairs have been completely covered but unfortunately, both the 2nd and 4th times that I applied it, I suffered from the following: A very itchy base of the neck, itchy head and A LOT OF HAIR LOSS!!! I know that henna is not supposed to do that but my arms and hands showed no allergic reaction so I'm very surprised. When I say hair loss, I mean quite a lot. For my 4th application, I bought a new type of henna and my daughter and I used it on the same day. My hair suffered even more burning but her head, for the first time, was also extremely itchy and burning after using the stuff. Unfortunately, I'm not using any of the brands known to you because I'm living in the Middle East and have been buying whatever I've been able to find in the open market, either plain old Persian or Indian Henna(one of the Indian Henna's is called "Henna Sultana"). I don't want to give up on henna because I just love the color. Plus, my daughter's dermatologist said that it's the best thing possible for her to use against over oily hair, dandruff and eczema. So my question again: Do you think that all of this is just a reaction to the additives that were found in those hennas? Also, if I can locate some neutral henna or senna pods around here, would my daughter benefit from them just as much??
