Re: Using Henna and/or Indigo on BLONDE hair?Posted by Elektra on May 28, 2004 at 04:59:44: In reply to: Using Henna and/or Indigo on BLONDE hair? posted by mischa on May 26, 2004 at 09:46:00: You _might_ be able to get a nice auburn, but henna won't darken yourstarting color that much. You could only achieve this by using indigo in a 2-step process, but this needs a lot of courage (see below ;) My natural color is a dirty-ash dark blonde, perfect for henna perhaps, which is the best thing about it.. so, for me, henneaing or not was not the question ;) To see what henna could do for you, i'd advise you to do lots of hairbrush hair testing (welcome to the club ;). Make sure, you'll use good quality henna and leave it in long enough (at least 5 hrs). Add red wine, cloves, coffee, tea tree oil, small bit of indigo, or whatever you like. As to the "fine-tuning", take a look at the other mixes, esp. for grey hair. Us grey heads are very keeping off that orange hue ;) The result you get is probably the darkest henna can give you on _your_ hair. If you like the color, still try it out on a strand test first before you really go for it. As for indigo, i found that using too much of it in the first mix will "weaken" the henna effects and sort of dry out the hair. I never use more than 30% indigo now. With a 2-step (henna, then indigo) process you _might_ be able to achieve a darker tone, but this step is _drastic_ (haven't had the courage myself yet), and a commitment, and you might end up darker than you want to. My tests results with this have been very good (purpelish-darkbrown), but i'm afraid of the mess with using indigo, and having to use this every month. I might try out strands first. Elektra
