In reply to: Especially for Tara, Kim in MI, those searching for burgundy... posted by Diane on May 26, 2004 at 16:38:58:

Someone on another board suggested something similar to me, she leaves hers in 6+
hours and said it deepens the tone and there is no *orangey* -- I have some leftover
prabda henna, beetroot & indigo mix, and I think *next time* when I do it (next week,
maybe?) I will add more indigo and leave it on lots longer, I should be able to do 8
hours if I henna first thing in the morning ... I better check my calendar, make sure I
don't have to GO somewhere LOL ...

now I'll need instructions on how to thaw my henna!

: I just had to share. A harvested hair test that I left in my henna
: mix for 8+ hours yielded a colour that I just wasn't expecting! After
: loads of tests using different mixes, I guess all along where I was
: falling down was in my timing! Now I know we should all know this
: from what we have learned here, but obviously timing IS of the
: essence! All my previous trials I left my samples in for 1-2 or
: occasionally up to 4 hours, and there was never much difference in
: the result. Always some variation on orangey brown. I have tried 4
: different types of henna (the supplier I'm using in the UK is great
: she sells 25 gm samples)and at least as many different mixes, but a
: mix left in for almost 9 hours gave me the closest colour
: to "burgundy" I have seen yet! I mean not a HINT of orange, just a
: very very deep cherry red! I was really astonished and excited, now
: this was a totally different colour!
:
: To be honest, I don't think it would be feasible for me to keep henna
: on my head for 8+ hours (I guess some people sleep in it overnight,
: but I just can't see doing that). Of course I know starting colours
: are also important, but if I could see such a drastic difference in
: the colour result I'm sure everybody else would too. This was NOT
: orange!
: For the record, the mix I used was just henna mixed with strong black
: hot coffee, and left overnight for dye release. I am in the process
: of testing the mix I used on my head, henna+red wine+cloves+lavender
: EO and leaving that in for 8 hours just for the fun of it.
: Everybody back to their mixing please, LOL!
