Especially for Tara, Kim in MI, those searching for burgundy...Posted by Diane on May 26, 2004 at 16:38:58: I just had to share. A harvested hair test that I left in my hennamix for 8+ hours yielded a colour that I just wasn't expecting! After loads of tests using different mixes, I guess all along where I was falling down was in my timing! Now I know we should all know this from what we have learned here, but obviously timing IS of the essence! All my previous trials I left my samples in for 1-2 or occasionally up to 4 hours, and there was never much difference in the result. Always some variation on orangey brown. I have tried 4 different types of henna (the supplier I'm using in the UK is great she sells 25 gm samples)and at least as many different mixes, but a mix left in for almost 9 hours gave me the closest colour to "burgundy" I have seen yet! I mean not a HINT of orange, just a very very deep cherry red! I was really astonished and excited, now this was a totally different colour! To be honest, I don't think it would be feasible for me to keep henna on my head for 8+ hours (I guess some people sleep in it overnight, but I just can't see doing that). Of course I know starting colours are also important, but if I could see such a drastic difference in the colour result I'm sure everybody else would too. This was NOT orange! For the record, the mix I used was just henna mixed with strong black hot coffee, and left overnight for dye release. I am in the process of testing the mix I used on my head, henna+red wine+cloves+lavender EO and leaving that in for 8 hours just for the fun of it. Everybody back to their mixing please, LOL!
