Defending to henna to the death! An encounter at a salonPosted by Jessie on June 3, 2004 at 20:22:08: I thought you all might find this amuseing.I went to my hair stylist yesterday and she commented on my hennnaed hands. I happily gave her a mini henna lecture and puzzleingly enough she scowled through the entire monologue. Confused at her reaction I continued to read my very boring magazine. After sitting for about twenty minutes in silence she asked me if I had ever considered highlighting my hair to which I replyed no. I used to dye and bleach my hair and had it turn to straw and simce then I have sworn off of any chemical alterations for my locks. I told her I was thinking of dyeing my har with henna which I have done once before. The ears of all the other stylests perked up and suddenly I was surronded by frowning woman all looking like their were a part of some hair dresser mafia. "Henna?" one woman who previously had been giveing an older woman highlights replied "Don't you know that vegitable dyes are the most AWFULL thing you can do to your hair?" "But henna isn't a 'vegitable dye'." I said feeling very uncomfortable "It is a plant if that's what you mean..." My hair dresser decided to chime in "Well, any plant dyes are bad for your hair." Getting a bit deffensive now I replied "I must dissagree. Have you checked any of your conditioning products? I'm sure some of them contain..." "We wouldn't sell anything containing henna in our store!" I was getting a little angery now becuase I had just bought a leave in conditioner from them and one of the ingredients was, in fact, HENNA! "Look," I said "I don't want to argue but" I tried to put this delicately but failed miserably "I don't think you know what your talking about". BAD IDEA. The entire mob started assaulting with a long speech about how they were "beauty school graduates" and I could lecture them after I had spent "5 years working in a salon" They evetually dispersed but continued to talk about me in a little huddle while my stylist continues on me a bit more roughly. I left a slightly smaller tip then usual and left in a hurry but I think I'll return with my newly hennaed hair with the hope of starting another battle.
