Defending to hennaPosted by Natasha on June 3, 2004 at 21:12:07: In reply to: Defending to henna to the death! An encounter at a salon posted by Jessie on June 3, 2004 at 20:22:08: My hair guy is very enlightened. He's well aware of the dangers ofchemical dyes --that's why the dye person wears gloves and works in a room with really good ventilation. My hair guy actually thinks my hennaed hair is gorgeous (well, it IS) and keeps asking me how I do it, but keeps forgetting since he's never tried it himself...then again, he has gorgeous thick black Asian hair, so no need...and the color guy does the clients... Maybe that's just southern California. People are very interested in natural dyes. They aren't offered in salons, b/c beauty schools don't teach them. But even the hairdressers are interested b/c so many of their clients are using stuff from the health foods stores on their hair, including henna. I think henna actually DOES fit in the category of vegetable dyes -- semipermanent and acid-based (closer to the natural pH of our hair unlike chemical dyes which are alkaline).
