Henna for my dreads

Wow, this forum is bopin'! Sweet.
So, as some of you know i have dreads, and for years i've been trying
to think of ways to henna them. The problem is that dreads are like
sponges or carpet- they absorb everything. Just like crayon gets
mashed into carpets, i worry that i'll never be able to get all the
henna bits out of my dreads, which could be their downfall. The only
thing I can think of is to buy some Jamila and use that to very
carefully coat the outside of each dread. Even then i probably won't
be able to get it all out of the roots though. Does anyone have any
ideas for me? I should do a test dread.
