Yes, longer couldn't hurt (though I usually only can stand 2-3 hours myself). Yes, reapplication should help. But, in the end, you're working with brown hair and auburn hair. The hair itself might take evenly all the way through, but because henna is translucent there will probably always be a degree of discrepancy between the dyed and not.
