The ingredient lists henna, indigo and cassia and promises : it contains only botanicals. But there is strict instruction to not : use metal of any kind, such as a spoon or pot, during the : preparation of henna. It even recommends removing earrings. I have : been browsing over this site pretty completely for several days and : haven't seen any info that suggests using metal would be bad. Is : this just a liability thing for the Light Mountain company incase : someone has previously dyed with a synthetic? Is it possible there : are unlisted additives, or are they a reputable source for henna? : : Light Mountain is reputable for being botanical (as far as I know) but not for being...um...truthful. Scum, actually. They refused to answer my email questions. Anyway, I'm not sure, but I believe the "no metal" rule is because acids can eat metals. You don't want to get hennaed hair, decide to bleach highlights in, and then have a reaction because a trace ammount of aluminum got into the henna because the citric acid dissolved it! That said, I usually mix in glass or pyrex, and with a metal spoon...whatever metal my silverwear is. I think if it can stand up to regular tomato assault, it'll live through henna.
