Nothing wierd will happen, but they're not the same.Posted by Catherine Cartwright-Jones on June 10, 2004 at 19:39:24: In reply to: Confused about Senna...are they all the same???? posted by Ramona on June 10, 2004 at 12:15:09: No fooling this stuff is confusing! Those pods are used for laxative (and from what I've read, I really wouldn't!) ... BUT .... that group of cassias can ALL be simmered to make conditioning tea. Obovata is the one most recommended for a hair pack. The range of terms for the various 400 species of senna/cassia get swapped around ... Alata is a righteous fungicides, and has an amazing track record of healing animals with skin funguses. Angustifolia is I believe the one that's also called Meccan Senna and Tinnevely. YOu can use Meccan Senna to make hair conditioning tea. Don't use the others for laxatives. If I am reading my old texts correctly, the laxative senna was used in the Arabic pharmacopeia to relieve opiate-induced consipation ( because opiates were pain killers way back when, and hash has been around .... a long time!). Though its certainly effective, I would go to a doctor for help with that .... there are safer ways to get the system running. If you use the Meccan senna on your hair ... it won't do the same conditioning as obovata, but it won't give you massive stomach cramps either.
