Manic Panic and Henna?

Hi all! I really hate how chemical dyes kill my hair, and am
contemplating switching to Henna (after the obligatory "cool down"
period). But I have a few questions. #1--Is Manic safe to use with
Henna? I know chemical dyes are not, but since Manic is natural I
assume it's safe. #2--Would the Manic be effective this way, since
it is generally better on porous hair?

I am looking for a REALLY RED color. Think--about halfway between
old-school Tori Amos and Bozo the clown. Any experience/advice would
be much appreciated!
