(4 JANE) posted by Nikkia on July 6, 2004 at 22:27:33: Nikkia,I am glad my msg didn't come across too stong and turn you off from seeking advice here. Obviously, everyone should always do what THEY want to do to their own hair. It just hurts somehow to see people fight their natural hair. I have wavy-curly hair myself and have always wanted either STRAIGHT or CURLY hair. Every blue moon years ago I used to try to blow-fry my hair straight. And in my silly youth I did have a perm. Alas, my hair is healthier and happy in its natural state, and I suspect yours is too. Curly hair, in my opinion, is just dang beautiful so I am delighted you are considering keeping yours. As for henna, if you like the red tones, definitely keep it up. I do think henna strengthens hair and is good for it. And I suspect most people here will tell you the same. Of course, no bottle of potion or plant material, for that matter, will work miracles. Healthy, beautiful hair, like skin, in my opinion, comes from the inside. But I say, if you like the color, KEEP ON WITH THE HENNA!!!! I do concoctions of many plant dyes, including henna. And honestly, I mostly do them because they are just so dang fun. I started out doing plant dyes to get some highlights back to a darker shade, and I just fell in love with making concoctions. My hair is now a nice light reddish-brown, and very close to my natural color. I basically achieved my goal, of getting to a more natural/matching color so I could allow the highlights to grow out. But, I am not so sure I will ever stop with the plant dyes because they make my hair feel so nice and I love making the concoctions. If you don't like the color, you could always go for cassia, or a number of other hair-nourishing plant products (like amla, and sooo many others...). Here is another great site to check out: http://www.fromnaturewithlove.com/soap/IndianSkin.asp Anyway, I suggest you do what makes you happy with your hair. Yes, avoiding harsh chemicals, like the stuff in perming solutions and synthetic hair dyes is one of the best things you can do. Henna, in my opinion and many others, is great for your hair. But, you may or may not want red tones. Oh, another thing: minimize (if not cut out altogether) the use of a blow-dryer. I think blowing hair dry is one of the worst things people do to their hair. I wish you lots of luck with waterever you decide! Jane : Thanks, Jane, for the info. It really made me think twice about my : curls. And you are right about the chemical damage to your hair when : you perm, straighten, color and etc. I need to steer clear of all : that and get my hair onto it's natural recovery. I just hope it : doesn't take FOREVER! :) : : So, in your opinion...should I continue to use Henna on my hair or : just forget about putting ANYTHING on my hair for now. Do you think : Henna HELPS strengthens and makes hair healthier and your hair : benefits from it? : : Thanks Again, : Nikkia
