When I was giving a paper at the Menstruation Conference, the keynote
speaker was doing a thing on Dracula and trying her best to peg it to
menstruation. When she was done, I said, "Given that the geographic
areas wherein the Dracula legends came forth, and that was an area of
interface between Christianity and Islam, and the fact that there was
a Muslim presumption of "menstrual impurity which attracts Malevolent
Djinn and the Evil Eye", do you think the Dracula legends may have
been a European misreading of Muslim traditions about creatures that
feed on blood, particularly menstrual blood" .......... and heard 100
jaws hit the floor and the poor woman fukkin choke. Sigh. (one of
those rhetorical questions that you know for deadshur the anwser is
yes, and you hope someone picks up the ball ........... feels like a
spike at the volleyball net ... that .... you wish ... you pray it
might be returned rather than going straight off court ......... coz
some dialogue would rock more than dead silence .......... just
because you really love the game )

GAWD do I ever want to talk to someone about the cross cultural
readings of that text........ and the trickling out of Middle Eastern
ideas about sexuality (which recognize that women like sex and that
sex is a really good thing) into England during 1900's ......

Why oh why don't I have 20 lifetimes simultaneously? At half past 50
there's just tooooooo much cool shit I want to go do!
