Let me see if I can help you. I am about 70% silver, 30% brownunderneath the gray. I have used the henna from suppliers on this forum for at least 5 times. It covers the gray but it also makes it red auburn as that is the tone (value?) that henna gives on my hair. I have also used the brown walnut mixed with the henna which gives a brownish-red on my hair; as well as indigo both mixed with the henna and applied separately in the two-step process. The henna- indigo 2 step process is described on another page on this website. As far as I can determine, the results that one gets on their hair from henna is mostly determined by three things: the condition and color of the starting hair, the age and freshness of the henna powder used to start with, and lastly whether or not you waited for dye-release from the henna and applied within the time allowed before the demise of the dyestain. I believe that Light Mountain Henna has been mentioned on this website as being a product that may or may not get as good of a dye-release as the other henna powders that one may get from say the suppliers on this forum. Also, it may or may not have metals and/or other additives in it that could cause the green color to the silver roots of your hair. I have my own ideas about what those additives might be but I am not a chemist so can't be sure. I do know though, that some natural herbs can cause that tint (green) and sometimes these are mixed with the herb indigo to supposedly make it work better. For my own sense of well-being and because I too do not like green roots, I will try to only use the body-quality hennas found from the suppliers here as they are commented on quite allot by others here. If you use black walnut powder mixed with the henna it will make it darker in a more natural way than the indigo (or woad) will. I don't get the green roots with it. There are tons of posts in the "mixes" page plus a chart that someone put there to tell you how to do all of this! But henna only gives some tone of red to be truthful.
