I suggest first doing a sample to make sure that it was *indigo* and not a dye
containing the bad stuff, what's it called, PPDs? You don't want to accidentally go
green or something!

I color my hair with a mix of henna and indigo and it covers the gray lightly, so my
roots are always a little lighter than the rest, but they are colored ... it blends in well.
But I still have very very strong red highlights - with my mix I'm probably more "dark
auburn" than black ...

I would say if you henna over it (assuming the test goes okay) you will get strong red
tones. It won't lighten it any, but you certainly should be able to keep the red
highlights. And if the indigo does fade some, you'll still have the red-tones from
henna there.

:-)
