My sympathies about your hair problems. I am in something of a similar position, since I have fried hair, too, and ASAP am going to henna it,following the counsels of the people here. In the meantime, to condition it, I am using Infusium [as I have done for some times anyway]leave-in conditioner + their shampoos and rinse-out conditioner. [I think the Aubrey products are better, although more costly; they also have the advantage of being cruelty-free, whereas I very recently learned that Infusium is not yet off the PETA list, so I probably shall not buy it again.] As well, I put olive oil in an old hair dye applicator bottle, left over from the Bad Old Days of PPDs, and squeeze out a few drops daily i nto my hand. I then sleek it over the outer, very dry layers of my hair, paying particular attention to those areas which feel like a bale of hay. It doesn't make me go out looking like a gigolo from a bad movie! All the best as you restore your hair, and let's hope it does not take as long as you think to do so.
