semi- permanent residue

I used to use henna as a teenager..why did I stop?! Anyway, I read
that you recommend waiting 3-6 months after using chemical hair dyes
before using henna. I am waiting for a sample to try a strand test
before going all the way. Does the "rule" apply if you've been using
semi- permanent color?
Looking forward to seeing the before and after gray pics!
