It is easier for me to mix it, and I have enough gray at the roots that I feel it's advantageous to have it not quite as dark as it might otherwise be at the roots - that way there's less of a distinct LINE as it grows out. So I would say that my gray roots cover with a medium ash-brown with red highlights ... the rest of my hair looks darker (dark auburn) because it's been hennaed and henna/indigoed more, and my original color was dark brown. You could try it both ways and see if you get results you're pleased with in one step. I've been pleased with mine. I do what you said, mix them separate, the henna the night before, the indigo with hot water the next day, and then mix when both have a dye release. Kim
