Most of the henna powder from ethnic markets is harmless.Posted by Faery Ring on September 30, 2004 at 16:41:24: In reply to: Catherine, Reposting this trying to get input. posted by Tee on September 30, 2004 at 02:47:32: I buy cheap henna powder from the ethnic markets all the time and Idon’t believe that any of them have been adulterated with PPD or metal salts. They most likely have a green dye added but that is about it. I could have been lucky but I also look closely at the package and smell the henna powder before I purchase it. I know what 100% natural henna looks and smells like so I don’t usually have problems. The terpineol that has been added to the Jani cone smells just like pine-sol. Personally I don’t think there is anything wrong with that. I like pine-sol. It is not a problem. To check if the henna powder has been adulterated with PPDs check the link below. PPDs are dark dye components and the henna powder and paste would have a very dark cast to them if they had been adulterated. At least I would think so because I have seen Bigen powder (pure PPD) and it is a very black powder.
