Internal usage?Posted by Elettaria on October 9, 2004 at 20:06:42: In reply to: my book says posted by Kim in MI on October 9, 2004 at 18:28:47: *faints with horror*It's allowed in France, but in France you have to be a doctor before you can train as an aromatherapist. In the UK aromatherapists are not allowed to advise ingestion of essential oils. So this advice I've been gathering is concerning external usage. Thyme is a dicey enough oil as it is, I've never known anyone who even used it in massage let alone internally. I've occasionally used it for cleaning; it's certainly strong enough! As far as I know, they really are erring on the side of caution. I've had two pregnant aromatherapists, and I remember them saying that they did take rosemary and so forth out of the box while they were pregnant; not because they thought a bit would do any damage, but because they didn't want to be using them all the time (and these women were doing several hours of massage on the trot, although the oils were mostly being absorbed by the client, of course). I strongly doubt that a bit of lavender in henna is going to do any harm, but considering that it's only for a few months and you don't want to take any risks with pregnancy, you may as well avoid it just in case.
