It does sound like you were using dodgy stuff, yupPosted by Elettaria on October 17, 2004 at 15:11:36: In reply to: Hair releasing colour after 4-5 weeks, and mixing my own henna posted by Amy on October 17, 2004 at 14:00:00: 6 weeks of the dye running? I used to use old towels when I washedthe henna off and after that I was fine. Use proper, pure, body-art quality henna without any of the additives (apart from lemon juice and water), see where that gets you. The one you bought claims to produce different colours, which is always a bad sign. Pure henna will often produce a deeper colour anyway, so seriously, experiment with that first before you start messing around with cloves and such, you may not need them. What colour are you starting with and what colour are you aiming for? Also, don't add boiling water, it cooks the henna. A little gentle heat is fine, boiling isn't. I know that Catherine's stuff here is superb, can't remember how much she charges for international P&P. She's got some UK suppliers listed here as well. I'm hennaing a friend of mine and we've found nice henna at the local hippy place, asked for body art quality and it's doing a good job, Hasina I think it's called. Keep an eye on BBE dates, the local Indian fabric store had henna in the window but the BBE date was 2000!
