Hair releasing colour after 4-5 weeks, and mixing my own hennaPosted by Amy on October 17, 2004 at 14:00:00: Hi there!I apologise if I'm asking silly or obvious questions - I have done a lot of reading on the site, but haven't found an answer to this question! I usually colour my hair with semi-permanent dyes mistakenly believing they were better for my hair than permanents, but I stopped using them after my hairdresser explained they are worse. He suggested I try henna because I didn't want to have to deal with chemicals and ugly regrowth (the cycle of constantly having to dye). I bought a mix from a hair supplies store in Melbourne (<a href="http://www.petra.com.au/shop.asp?id=HOO_NAZ1001">this one</a>, and it worked perfectly - I had a brilliant deep red colour for months. I did however have a problem with water never seeming to run clear after a shower - it took probably 6 weeks before I could safely use a white towel (we have been travelling Europe, and I have left a trail of red-stained towels in hotels LOL). I was even worried about wearing light coloured clothes after a shower in case my hair dripped!!! Is it normal for this to continue for so long, and if so, is there any way to discourage it? If not I guess I'll just have to buy some red towels!! As I said, I used a pre-mixed solution at home (now in London), and after reading this site would like to try mixing my own. So, the mix I am planning to try is henna with some cloves to darken and paprika for extra fire. Is this correct? I guess I am trying to match the same colour I had before. Can you just use normal herbs from the health food shop or supermarket? Also, I have read that you mix with boiling water and lemon/orange juice and then let the solution sit overnight before application. Do you then heat it up again before you put it on your hair too? Thanks in advance for any help!! Cheers, Amy If anyone could recommend somewhere to buy good quailty henna in North London I'd appreciate it :) Thanks!!
