hm ...Posted by Kim in MI on October 17, 2004 at 15:28:01: In reply to: Hair releasing colour after 4-5 weeks, and mixing my own henna posted by Amy on October 17, 2004 at 14:00:00: I surfed around but can't find any *ingredients* listed for the Nazeer Henna products. My *guess* is that there's more than just henna in there, because 1.) they sell different colors, which must be mixes, and 2.) because of the bleeding and the expectation of fading. My guess is that it was some other herbal ingredient that caused so many days of bleeding hair ... After I wash mine out, I get clear water the next day. Also, the henna dyes wouldn't remain active for weeks ... I'm puzzled that your hairdresser recommended henna so you didn't have the cycle of needing to re-dye -- because it isn't permanent? My experience with henna has been that it is quite permanent, it has held it's color much better than the chemical permanent dyes I used to use! So I am actually *needing* to re-henna to cover the roots where I never had to when I used commercial dyes because they faded so much, and this does not. Anyway, I would suggest looking at the mixes page to find a color similar to what you want ... it is an inexact science and even the same "mix" might look different on the 2nd or 3rd application than on the first ... but it will give you somewhere to start! I mix my henna with lemon juice, not heated. If you use boiling water, the henna will release it's dye MUCH faster, and may not still be good overnight ... room temperature lemon juice works well overnight. Here's a link to a table about dye release times ... see link ... HTH Kim : suggested I try henna because I didn't want to have to deal with : chemicals and ugly regrowth (the cycle of constantly having to dye). : : I did however have a problem with water never seeming to run : clear after a shower - it took probably 6 weeks before I could : safely use a white towel (we have been travelling Europe, and I have : left a trail of red-stained towels in hotels LOL). I was even : worried about wearing light coloured clothes after a shower in case : my hair dripped!!! : : Is it normal for this to continue for so long, and if so, is there : any way to discourage it? If not I guess I'll just have to buy some : red towels!! : Also, I have read that you mix with boiling water and lemon/orange : juice and then let the solution sit overnight before application. Do : you then heat it up again before you put it on your hair too?
