what kind of conditioner?

Well, it's been almost a week since I first hennaed my hair. I've
only washed it once since then(I have dry hair and I don't wash it
until it needs it). It's rather darker than I thought it would turn
out the first application, a really pretty coppery auburn. So now I
need to know what is the best kind of conditioner to use on my
hennaed hair. I read somewhere that protien conditioners aren't
good. Is this true? What does everyone else use?
