There's only one type of henna if you mean colour, i.e. it's red.
Anything claiming to be blonde or brown or black is not henna, and if
you're lucky it'll be made of other plants, and more often you don't
know what you're getting and it's chemicals that range from nasty to
downright dangerous. So it is henna you want to use?

It's quite a burgundy shade in that second picture, you'd probably
find it went more auburn than that. But you can certainly go deep red
from blonde, although it means having the henna on for longer and
possibly building it up with a few applications. Have a look in the
Mixes section. A number of people are hennaing over chemically dyed
hair or grey. The important thing is to get good quality, pure body
art henna (it's the dodgy stuff that can make your hair go green and
other delights), and always strand test first (especially since you
don't want to miscalculate and end up orange!). Henna retains the
natural variation in colour of your hair; I always find that chemical
dyes look rather flat, but henna doesn't.

I'd just get some good quality henna and start experimenting. Have a
look at the fabulous colour Catherine gets (think it's called the
really simple mix) using just the classical mix of henna and lemon juice.

Congrats on the baby, when's it due?
