If you're not going for blue-black, you can also mix the two just before applying, and
get nice deeper red-browns. I'm not sure if you had mostly indigo and a little henna
how close to black it might get, I got a very dark ash brown (inside) that was still a
deep red in the sun with a 50/50 mix.

: Please don't bite if this has been answered elsewhere - I probably
: haven't looked in the correct place.
:
: Why do you need to apply henna before applying the indigo? Is it
: because the henna draws/allows the indigo pigment to penetrate the
: hair?
:
: I have to say I'm looking forward to using the indigo. For several
: years I've gone from chemical dyes to henna -but after a couple of
: severe reactions to nasty chemicals, henna is the only way to go
: now. I currently use the 'noir' henna from Lush as this is the
: easiest available and very simple to use.
