according to the hennapage article, sucrose doesn't work nearly aswell as dextrose to improve consistency.
I've only tried with the dextrose, and just followed the directions
from the article religiously, so mix up paste first and then add
dextrose. you don't really need to add more liquid when you're adding
dextrose, because dextrose sucks moisture right out of the air.
I don't know about the sucrose, but there's a lot of info in the
article, so it may help if you just study the article closely.
