More on adding sugarPosted by Elettaria on November 27, 2004 at 09:48:36: In reply to: dextrose instead of pectin posted by iris on November 26, 2004 at 21:48:22: Actually, if the sugar stretches the henna that far, I may only needto use 100g. If it's 2/3 henna to 1/3 sugar, how do you calculate the liquid? Do you use the amount of liquid you'd add to that amount of henna alone, and then the sugar is an extra? I presume you mix up the henna and liquid, add the sugar, and then leave it for dye release in the usual fashion? How far will 50g of sugar stretch 100g of henna, do you reckon? I was thinking of mixing up 100g with the sugar, and if I don't end up with enough (think I need 350ml, I've already got 450g frozen) I'll mix up the second packet. This reminds me of when I was making a chocolate cake once, and forgot to put the sugar in at the usual point. I added the other stuff, and of course the texture was nothing like what it was meant to be, it was much too dry. I was frantically adding more liquid (oil, water, orange juice - 'twas a vegan chocolate cake) when I happened to taste the batter and realised what had happened. It seemed OK when I added the sugar after that, but I made up another cake just in case, this one was a birthday present. Sugar seems to be strange, liquidy stuff.
