Henna horrible colorPosted by Portobello on December 3, 2004 at 19:52:02: I usually dye my hair with Colora black henna, which I think is pureindigo. At least it looks like it. Anyway, I thought I would treat myself and go with the double process method as suggested on here by Catheirne. Well, I did henna for the first time. I bought regular henna and indigo from the health food store. I am pretty sure they were organic. I proceeded in using hot water and lemon juice and mixing up the henna. I was even curious about what I would look like with red hair. I was hoping it would turn a nice red red (no orange) like Tracey's hair on the mixes page. I thought that if that happened I might just henna and not indigo. Well, I let it release dye for like two hours. I know some people leave it overnight, but this stuff stained my hands orange when I touched it, so I figured it had released. I left it on my head for two hours. Well, my scalp dyed the color of an orange popsickle and the hair itself (the roots that were not indigoed) turned a bright copper. I was quite surprised as my hair is not blonde by any means, more a medium brown. The color was so atrocious that I proceeded with indigo and have it on my head at this very moment. My question, I guess, in writing all this is WHY do some people's hair turn orange and some people's turn a nice red red like Tracey and others on the mixes page?
