Do you : have any feel for the dye release and demise of walnut? What did : liquid did you mix with the walnut/amla/indigo paste? Water? I'm not sure if black walnut has a demise time. The liquid I used is my homemade herbal tint. I mix 6-8 cups of water with 1/2 cup (or so..) of each of the following: Black malva flowers, sage, and rosemary. Simmer low 20 min. Store in frige. : After reading your response I may up the walnut a bit and do 50 henna, : 40 walnut, and 10 indigo. I'd rather put up with the red tones than : go too dark black, since I don't wear make-up and with my coloring I : would look washed out. : : What exactly does amla do that indigo doesn't? I gather from reading : other posts that it is another black. Is is blue toned like indigo? : Maybe that will be my next experiment. I used amla for the first time today. Boy, oh boy, did I get black. I mixed amla with my herbal tint (just use water) to a nice paste. Set it in the microwave over night. (So,that was last night.) Then today when I was ready to apply, I added black walnut to the amla, and thinned with my tint. Then I mixed up some cassia, set aside. Mixed up indigo, set aside. Waited 5 min. Put the Cassia into an applicator bottle. Then I added (in alternating spoonfuls) the indigo and amla/b.w. paste, till the bottle was full. Then I ran to the shower stall to apply. Took about 20 min to apply. I waited 1 hour after that to wash. I wish I could have waited longer, but I had a party to attend. I would have given it another hour, if I'd had the time. This is the darkest I been able to achieve so far. Also, the night before, all this, I had done an overnight henna. Good luck, Nancy E.
