Pierre, I did some failed test with just walnut on 4 week old hennaed hair to try and figure that out. (see post below for details) It looks like dye release almost immediately because of the dark brown water (gets darker with lemon juice than plain water), but I can't get it to dye hair, skin or nails at all- I tried immediately, after 30 min, 1 hr and leaving it soak for 4 hours. My first time buying it, so I will probably go ahead and use it with henna in a few days just because I bought it. My expectations are very low that it will do anything at all except dilute the henna. I bought it at Castle Art so I have no clue if it is dead, walnut is a waste of time anyway, or I am doing something wrong. I will probably do a 50 henna/50 walnut mix to see what happens. I'll let you know if anything happens. Do you think it does anything to your hair? Where did you get yours?
