I add my EO's and cloves when I am mixing up the henna. I'm not
certain it makes a difference when they are added.

I also find that if I keep the henna in a plastic container with a
lid...I put plastic wrap on the surface of the henna paste, a folded
paper towel over the wrap, the empty clove container on the towel and
the container lid on that (holding the empty clove container in
constant contact with the plastic wrap...I see dye release on the
towel in about 2 hours.

I use henna, 50:50 water/lemon juice, EO's (lavender, tea tree,
cajeput), and one regular size of ground clove spice container (not
the tiny half size one).
