indigo/salt question

I want to try adding salt to indigo to see if I can keep it from
fading so quickly...Do I add the salt to the indigo powder before
adding water or after???? Or does it matter??? ( have been using
about 50/50 henna/indigo in one step and love the color.
Unfortunately, the indigo seems to fade leaving too much red....

have seen the posts on amla (which I use in hair packs and home made
shampoos) but prefer to keep dark brown hair...anyone have experience
with mixing amla/indigo/henna in something like 10/40/50 for example
for dark,but not black???
