I've worked with indigo a few times, and had the same fading.
Although, I've yet to add salt.
I have experimented with amla/indigo/henna. It was dark, not black.
But I already had a base of henna+other stuff.
I was able to achieve black with cassia/amla/indigo.
The thing I figured out about indigo,is to get it into hair as soon
as possible. I have mixed 1 batch for front of my head, apply.
Then mix a second for the back of my head and apply.
Also, I've asked around about amla. Seems the best advice is to
mix the amla with water into a paste, and let it sit over night.
I tried this way and it oxidized like henna. Then, I mixed it into
my other ingredients. I sure hope this helps.
