Store Bought Henna Paste

I love the way henna dyes darker hair a rich red: I've been looking
for that colour forever! I was told I can buy the pastey goop premade
in a pharmacy: is this stuff OK? Also, I was thinking of adding in
paprika and cloves for more red. How much should I add to the paste? I
have bra strap-length hair.
