Henna by proxy - over chemical dyes?Posted by Elettaria on March 5, 2004 at 00:01:12: Hi everyone,I'm an ex-henna, or at least I'm trying to be. It's four years since I last hennaed, and I reckon I still have a year to go before it all grows out (it's thigh-length). It was great it some ways, but I'm not really a redhead, and I couldn't stand the nightmare of applying five packets of henna. But I'm getting nostalgic about henna, so I'm trying to henna by proxy! A friend of mine is interested in hennaing her hair. Her natural hair colour is apparently very dark brown, but she's been chemically dyeing it for years. She used to dye part of it bright scarlet, but decided she wanted it to look more natural again, so a few days ago she dyed it back to its original colour. How long do you reckon she'll have to leave it before she can start experimenting with henna? I got rather inspired today, a woman I know who also has dark brown hair has just hennaed and it looks fabulous. It's still fairly natural looking, and not that far from her original hair colour, but it now has lovely reddish lights. To whoever created this site: thanks, it's great. I've forwarded my friend the page on PPD, as it sounds like it might explain the mystery of why her flatmate had an appalling reaction after dyeing her hair a while ago. Face swelled up like you've never seen, anaphylactic shock, and the hospital was crap. And she's still not sure what caused it, which is worrying her quite a bit.
