oh yeah--I used corn syrup. light corn syrup. it made the
henna/indigo much easier to handle. it was like a nice thick paint
and it washed out very nicely, didn't dry up as much either and I had
it on my head for 7 hours(did not drip either until the last 2 hours
it started a little bit around my ears.)I don't think the corn syrup
made a difference to the color---I used light so it was clear, but it
might have made a difference to the gray taking it in somehow...corn
sugar is glucose(Dextrose)and corn syrup is 80% corn sugar and 20%
high fructose.(I know this because of my disease-Porphyria-I have to
eat corn syrup or else I am in ER getting a glucose infusion!)Maybe
somehow the sugar translated the protein molecules into the hair
shaft..??? sounds reasonable.
But no matter--the first indigo I did was just indigo and sea salt in
hot water--resting for 15 minutes before I applied it and then left
on for 90-120 minutes. I did the same thing again before I added that
to the henna that I had prepared 16 hours before with the allspice,
terps, vinegar, corn syrup---mixing it with the beer that I boiled
with a couple of apple-cinnamon tea bags for scent. I left that on
for 7 hours.
My hair was soft right away, but over the next two days it did get a
little dry. But when I first shampooed it was fabulous! soft, not dry
at all, very very shiny. and twice as dark as when I first did it.
