I do root applications on dry hair, becauseit's easier for me to do the sectioning on dry hair. I part my hair down the middle, henna the part (with a tint brush), do a section from front to back next to the middle part, henna that, etcetera all the way to the ear, and then the other side. I make my sections rather small, about 1 cm I think. (there's a bit of variation obviously because your head is round, not square). It does take some time, but it works, I don't miss spots if I do it this way. Without careful sectioning, I tend to miss spots on the back of my head. I also make my paste a bit runnier than I would do for a full-head application (excess liquid gets absorbed by the rest of the hair as Krazee said). And when I'm done, I put on a shower cap and push the hair down on my head, that way I can feel from the feeling on my scalp whether I missed bits and push the henna around somewhat to drier spots (this works better if the paste is cold when you apply it, because you can feel it better that way). I don't think you'd notice if you miss a small spot, by the way, unless your hair is completely white. iris
