: Oh Debra if only you had posted this info back around the holidays!
:
: I made several dozen shortbread cookies using my hand and foot cookie
: cutters. I used tube gel icing to "henna" them with and the stuff
: never dried. The advice on the tube says that if you decorate before
: baking that the gel will harden which it did but not before spreading
: and bubbling thus ruining my doodles. Some of them still looked
: pretty but when I actually ate them the hardened gel stuck to my
: teeth like taffy...was just plain yucky. Will definitely give your
: recipe a shot next time! Thanks for posting it!

Lily,
Bookmark Martha Stewart's decorating tips page below for next time. As
usual she is a bit over the top, but she has some good hints on the
wet paper towels to keep it moist in the frig, etc.
In her recipe I just substituted the powdered egg whites for egg
whites and used a few table spoons of water to thin it down and a dash
of vanilla for flavoring instead of lemon juice because I didn't want
lemon flavored frosting.
If the photo link below shows up, I like the one on the right. It
would be great as gingerbread cookies and white royal icing. I am
going to order the cookie cutter next time I order henna. Were did
you get a foot cookie cutter?
My second cookie baking tip that I happened upon on the glorious
internet is parchment paper. No need to grease, slides on and off the
baking sheets for baking, cooling, and decorating, no clean-up, is
reusable for many batches....wonderful stuff that no one ever
advertises.
I know this is a hennaforhair forum, but when I saw those hennaed hand
cookies they blew me away--such a clever idea. It would make a great
school project for kids just decorating them.
