amla alone ~ cools tones?

Am I correct that amla alone can "cool" the tones without adding color? Does it usually/
always do this, or is it just a few people who have gotten that? Not amla WITH henna, but
amla alone, over previously hennaed?

Do the cool tones last, or are they temporary?
