: Has anyone found that henna dried out their hair?
: I used good body art quality henna, soaked it overnight in lemon
juice and left it on
: for 3 hours. The first day, my hair (which has not been chemically
treated) looked
: great, but since then, it's definitely gone dull and flyaway.
: I tried washing it and conditioning it, but still no change. I'm
about to try mayonnaise
: (heard it's great for hair), but I've also heard that henna "coats"
the hair and doesn't
: "let" any conditioner through. However, there are so many positive
reports on this site
: and elsewhere about how great henna is for hair that I can't quite
believe the negative
: reports. So any feedback / tips / links on this matter would be much
appreciated.
: thanks!

Henna doesn't coat the hair, it binds with the keratin in the hair
itself, which makes the hair stronger and redder. If your're finding
your hair dull, I definitely agree to switch to something a bit less
acidic than pure lemon juice. The quality of henna used also plays a
big part in this--some lower quality hennas don't rinse completely
clean off the hair for the first few washings, and can make the hair
appear dull.
